A Report from Pawling 2022
My first time at Pawling is in the books! It was exciting to serve as co-chair this weekend. I attended David Hall’s intermediate class, Jen Schoonover’s low-impact class, and Jean Moody’s high-impact class. All teachers did brilliantly and their personalities shined through in their teaching! It was a great joy to attend the classes.I also enjoyed all the parties. It was great to have extended social time with dance friends.
I was totally impressed by the bazaar as well, and with Pat Tillotson’s “Thistles and Things.” Pat and I got a chance to chat and it was really great meeting her. I ended up getting a Prince Charlie jacket, a sporran, and my very first pair of ghillies! Also, The dance parties were fabulous! I spent a decent amount of time dancing on Friday and Saturday nights. It was great to see the team work in each set I danced in!
The venue did not disappoint! Bonnie and her team helped us with absolutely everything we needed, post haste. It was a joy to work with such an organized group of people. The sound crew and the musicians were also very easy to work with, and the music sounded great! We were able to resolve the air conditioning issues in time for the ball so that we didn’t need the fans and the sound people could work in a cool environment. I got to have Sunday lunch with Liz Donaldson, who I am a big fan of. The intergenerational qualities of our community always make these events so enjoyable.
As we begin the reflection time on this event, the Pawling committee will debrief and address the mask disagreements and review the evaluation forms. Covid made this event challenging because there was no way to both make the event safe and give people their choice with regard to masking. None of us knows what next year will hold and whether we will be faced with this issue again. I do enjoy a challenge, though, and am looking forward to planning next year’s Pawling already! Thanks again to the scholarship committee for making this all possible for me. I had an excellent time!
Best,
Nicholas Prosini
