With great regret I am announcing the suspension of our gathering on Thursday evenings for Scottish country dancing in Manhattan at St. Bart's.
Please be sure to check the websites for upcoming events you plan to attend in case of cancellations.
We will resume when the public health threat presented by the rapid spread of the virus wreaking havoc all over the world has passed. Perhaps a party at that time would be in order!
Stay safe until we dance again.
--Chris Ronald, RSCDS New York Branch President
The New York Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society invites you to join the worldwide community of dancers who thrill to fast-moving jigs and reels and stately strathspeys. Learn or polish your dancing skills in the friendly atmosphere of our classes. Share the joys of Scottish dancing and pageantry at our parties and Highland Balls. All welcome! No experience necessary! Come with or without a partner.
2020-2021 Membership & Donations. Applications for the 2020-2021 membership season are now open. Memberships expire on June 30, 2020, so now is the time to renew (or become a member for the first time!). This year, members can pay their fee via PayPal on the membership page if they prefer.
We are also now accepting donations via PayPal. Please consider making a donation to keep the Branch active and to help us return to dancing as quickly as possible once it's safe to do so. After you click the PayPal button below (or the Donate button at the top of every page), you will have the chance to specify whether your donation should go to the Auslander Music Fund (used to bring musicians to play for major Branch events) or the Joan Treble Scholarship Fund. If you do not specify where the donation should go, it will go toward general operating funds.
Basic class registration is currently closed. Keep an eye on this space for updates on the next basic class. Alternatively, visit our friends at Scotia Dancers to see if they are running a beginners' series that might work for you in the meantime! (Experienced visiting dancers are always welcome to drop in for an evening whenever they are in town.)
RSCDS New York members interviewed on BBC Radio Scotland's Take the Floor. Visit the BBC Radio Scotland website to hear interviews with some of our members and their favorite tunes (segment starts at 1:25)! Interviewees include former presidents Tom Marshall and Ellen Sears, teachers Xiaowen Yu and Deborah Leary, and dancers Mary Gray and Emily Russell.
